Living it, loving it - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews
Excuse me? I must have misunderstood those of you who think this movie is racist and offensive to Greek Americans and the Greek people. What you may not realize is, the way the movie portrays the Greek families in this movie, is completely correct in most aspects! The portrayal of the Greek Orthodox Church is perfectly beautiful, as is the of the love the family shares for eachother. Those of you who make fun of the Greek way of life are, actually, the racists in this situation.
Toula's family, while eccentric, are a perfectly happy family that loves eachother, which is expressed in many ways throughout the movie. For instance, Gus, the father, only wants his daughter to be married because he feels that it will make her happy. This is similar to fathers in all cultures, including American.
Please, do not take offense at the way these Greeks are depicted. As a Greek American, growing up in a house where we were told to eat up and be proud of being Greek, I am very pleased to finally see a movie that shows the Greek way of life. The humorous moments in the film only magnify those in my own life.
If I do not take offense at this, those of you that are not Greek and only are "sympathetic" to us should really just stop. If I don't take offense, neither should you.
