A must-see! - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I found My Big Fat Greek Wedding to be clever, quirky, and fun. But it is only so when you watch it with friends; it becomes more enticing and meaningful that way. Great comedy. You should see this film (if you haven't already) because it will change your perspective AND make you laugh.

Im greek and it was not offensive it was great - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I thought it was pretty good because I understand every joke. The Windex Joke was because there is vinager in it and Greeks think Vinager helps things. The humor was great i have seen it 10 times in two years.

The big fat greek wedding of the century - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This was a great movie. The story was great and easy to understand, the acting was also good and very funny. This is the type of movie you are able to watch again and again and not be bored. I love the transformation of Toula from the beginning to the end and how she starts to stand up for herself. In all, this movie is a must see!

Unbelievably....believeble! - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

The characters in this movie are so memorable that you just can't resist liking them. they're all so...unique and funny! my favourite has to be the dad and his windex (so there you go). although the fact that ian had to do all that stuff just to marry tula...well lets say that me and tula were thinking the same thing when she said "any minute he's gonna go "hah, you're so not worth this". im not trying to be rude but seriously, they should get an actress who's a little less cross eyed. i really loved the fact that the miller family became "greek" becuase...hooly they really were like toast. this story is so true that i just couoldn't believe it at first. this is exactly what most greeks are like (loud and proud) and i should know..i live in a greektown. anyway, yes...go see this movie it's memorable and amusing....and true. peace ;-)

An absolute dream - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

For once there is a movie that does not use perversion to entertain. Its main purpose is not to insult Greek-Americans but to show America that there is more to America than the average white society. Everyone has different views and beliefs (no matter how extreme) and it is important for everyone to realize just how special it is to have a "mixed salad" society. The fact that Toula fell in love with an "average" white man is beautiful because it shows people that love is inevitable and overcomes all obstacles. Although the movie was slightly exaggerated in parts it shows the overall culture of Greeks in America. This movie was fabulous and teaches an outstanding lesson to all. Bravo!

Living it, loving it - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

Excuse me? I must have misunderstood those of you who think this movie is racist and offensive to Greek Americans and the Greek people. What you may not realize is, the way the movie portrays the Greek families in this movie, is completely correct in most aspects! The portrayal of the Greek Orthodox Church is perfectly beautiful, as is the of the love the family shares for eachother. Those of you who make fun of the Greek way of life are, actually, the racists in this situation. Toula's family, while eccentric, are a perfectly happy family that loves eachother, which is expressed in many ways throughout the movie. For instance, Gus, the father, only wants his daughter to be married because he feels that it will make her happy. This is similar to fathers in all cultures, including American. Please, do not take offense at the way these Greeks are depicted. As a Greek American, growing up in a house where we were told to eat up and be proud of being Greek, I am very pleased to finally see a movie that shows the Greek way of life. The humorous moments in the film only magnify those in my own life. If I do not take offense at this, those of you that are not Greek and only are "sympathetic" to us should really just stop. If I don't take offense, neither should you.

Put some windex on it:) - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

THIS MOVIE WAS EXTREMELY FUNNY. THERE WAS NEVER A DULL MOMENT. ALL OF THE OTHER CRITICS THAT HAD SOMETHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THE MOVIE ARE TOTAL LOOSERS. IF THE MOVIE WAS NOT FUNNY, IT WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN AT THE BOX OFFICE FOR ALMOST 1/2 A YEAR OR MORE, AND FURTHERMORE, NIA WOULD NOT HAVE REAKED IN 229,000,000 MILLION DOLLARS. NEED I SAY MORE. I GIVE THIS MOVIE AN OOOOOMMMMMMPPPPPAAAAHHH

Not bad - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This is an okay movie with a few laughs and a fun story. It is also a good family film and it is okay to watch for the whole family.I enjoyed this film a fair amount. This is all just my opinion though.

My big, fat, english, review. - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I loved this comedy. I think that if anyone hasn't seen that movie you just have to watch it. I have to say I have seen a lot of films but this one is absolutly hilarious. Based on a romantic couple and a mad family. I adore the acting and can relate to it because I ALSO come from a big, loud, african family and that is like the greek one and we are family friends with a quiet family. The wife's name is Molly and she is 100% identical to Ean's mother. I am not joking when I say I am hooked on this film, when you have watched it 12 times I think you can safely say so! Rating= A*********************************

My reccommendation. - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a comedy you should watch.Believe me you gonna like it!It combines a sense of humor and love story.

Why can't hollywood produce these films? - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This is the kind of simple, fun, lighthearted entertainment that Hollywood used to produce. What happened? This is a beautiful little film that any second or third generation immigrant can appreciate. The actors fit in their roles like hands in a glove. It is too bad the TV version didn't have the charm of the film.

Good film but a carbon copy - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This film was a blockbuster hit and I have to admit it was funny! One thing that I did not like about this film was that its mostly a carbon copy of Meet The Parents. In this film they tries to bring to families together who aren't greek. Meet The Parents is about a family trying to bring the boyfreind into the family. You will sure laugh at the windex jokes!

Typical wedding - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This movie is the greatest!!! Everyone understands it in their own way. This movie is, I think, the best because it shows how different people do things. Even though this movie is about a family that seems completely weird to some people, a big part of the people understand it. My friends and I all saw it like 5 times just in the theatres. I have it and just watched it for about the 20th time yesterday. Make sure you watch this movie!!!!

Better than expected - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

The movie was better than I expected. It was alright...couldnt stand the "lingo" that much really. The actors were alright....the story was ok.....dont think it was a real winner though...I own it but have only watched it once.

Hilarious. - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

It has most of the components you look for in a romantic comedy. It's relaxing, it's funny, boy meets girl; they fall in love, there's the usual issues that obstruct their love but they overcome that and they live happily ever after. But this film has a quite unique storyline. If you love to laugh and enjoy reasonably simple plot, this is a movie for you.

Great film (and not offensive) - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I watched this film for the first time with very low expectations. I am not a romantic-film lover at all. But this movie was a terrific exception. While the story was generally predictable, the characters truly made it great. Saying this, the leads, although likable, do not completely make this movie a hit; it's the members of her family (especially mother Maria, father Gus, and Aunt Voula). As for the person who said this movie was offensive, just shut it!! Maybe it does show the Greeks as old-fashioned, but they are also represented as caring towards their family and a close-knit clan. What's so wrong with that?!?! I wish I had it like Toula....

Funny for a movie that only came out in 7 theaters - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I loved this movie. It is hard to believe that it only came out in seven theaters at first. My favorite character would definately be the dad. This movie might be very offensive to Greek-Americans, but no offense to them, they make a great topic for a comedy movie.

This movie rocks!!!!!!!!!! - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

THIS IS A FUNNY, HEARTWARMING FAMILY ROMANTIC COMEDY MOVIE. IT IS ENTERTAINING EVERY TIME. THIS SHOULD HAVE WON THE SCREENPLAY OSCAR AT THE AWARDS. SEE IT NOW!

Great movie!! - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

Look, I am a guy's guy and I really don't like 'chick flicks' but I really liked this one. It may have been somewhat of a cliche story, but it is so fresh that it goes way past that and turns the cliche into a unique original story. This is a romantic comedy that you girls can bring your men to. A+++ easily.

This movie totally sucks - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I highly not recommend this movie to anyone. It had the worst plot. It didn't make any sense. There was nothing funny about it. It's highly overated. My own wedding will be a lot better than this movie was.

A big fat disappointment - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

Nia Valdaros is a likeable actress because she looks like an average woman, not the Halle Berry or Julia Roberts of Hollywood. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" has her alone to thank for this otherwise predictable and thin comedy that by the miracle of God somehow managed to gross $229 million at the box-office and become the number one independent film of all time, not to mention the number one romantic comedy. Valdaros plays Lulia, a 30 year-old unmarried Greek woman whose family thinks she looks "old" and needs to get married so she can cook for the rest of her life. The film, set in Chicago but filmed in Toronto, was produced by Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, and they are probably the only two clowns benefiting from the movie's generous profits. When Lulia meets a handsome teacher, they fall in love and want to get married. But, as you would predict, her family doesn't like him because he's not Greek. But this blows over pretty fast and pretty soon we're at the wedding. I could say I was expecting more from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". I was expecting belly laughs and instead got chuckles. I was expecting witty dialogue and instead got cliche'd cuteness. I was expecting excellent performances, and instead only got two: Valdaros and the father, who has the best lines: "Her fiance' is like a piece of toast...no honey, no jam...just dry." The mother gets a few good ones: "Back in my day, there was no food". I could say I thought the movie was okay- Hey, I'm a tough critic. I'm not like most of these losers who come on here and give A+'s to films like "Spider-Man" and "Freddy vs. Jason". I actually look at what a movie has to offer. This one had a light (too light) comical approach, an obvious plot, and not enough happening. It did have good performances from some of the cast and I like the fact that the main characters don't have to look like supermodels to convince us of their romantic intuitions. Speaking of the romance, there's barely any to me. I've seen stronger love scenes in "Not Another Teen Movie" and that was 'ahem' making fun of teen romances. So if you're in the mood for some mindless fluff, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" will do, I guess. It's not very groundbreaking, and it's a shame that stupid americans had never seen a movie about Greek people before and this had to be the movie to start what is bound to be countless spin-offs about Greek culture. Hey, they already have the terrible CBS sitcom.

I kinda don't understand why it made so much money - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is good yes but it made so much money and I dont understand why? It made about 246 million at the box office and became the highest grossing indie of all time. I liked it enough that I bought the movie on DVD but think about it? Was this movie really worth all the money it made?

To much hype. - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I didn't see this movie until after it came out on DVD. I guess I was expecting to much from this film because of all the media hype. I found it cute, but not very funny.

Loved this movie - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This is a movie that relates to many people of many ethnic races. One reason why this movie was so popular was because you were looking at real people. The traditions that you see in this family could just as well be one of your own family. Of course, the story showing a women wanting a change in her life is positive as she goes to school and becomes more confident in her self which brings confidence in herself. BFGW reminded me of family envolvement in my own wedding. Everyone wants to be part of the happy event and keeping to some traditions of the family. I loved that it was so positive and family friendly. My 7 yr old grandson loved watching the scene the 2nd day Ian came to the travel agency and saw him get beat up by the little old women. Roll it back again grandma he would say. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I loved the expressions on Michael Constaine face. The opening scene of the movie was so funny. "You, you better get married soon, "you starting to look old."

My big fat greek wedding - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This movie is offensive to greek-americans - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

Greek-Americans should have protested this film. They are depicted as an ignorant race that holds together with ridiculous beliefs and traditions. Nothing in this film respects the values of the immigrant family, their strong religious beliefs, or their customs. The view of this film is that ethnic diversity is wrong and that immigrants should give up their traditions to be part of white anglo-saxon america. It is hard to believe that lack of ethnic diversity is something that any American should aspire toward and, more importantly, something that any American should mock. While the intent of this movie was probably just to have a few laughs, I believe that the audience-goer takes away some basics ideas of Greek culture that are defamed by overblown stereotypes. Very little is known of Greek culture in America. Most Americans consider Greeks as just another Western European ethnic group; they fail, however, to recognize the struggles, racism and unfair treatment confronted by Greeks throughout their history in this country. This movie dismisses hardship and struggle, racism and struggles against oppressive immigration statutes. Instead, this movie portrays Greek-Americans as people who are ignorant, lack and distrust formal education and who lack "good taste" (the "good taste" of the white anglo-saxon?). Moreover, the Greek Orthodox religion - one of the first Christian religions - is shown not positively for its deep-rooted traditions and customs, which date to the time of Christ; Rather, the Church is mocked for its chanting, baptism, wedding, Sunday school, and Greek language.

A wonderful comedy - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

This is a story about a plain young woman who transform herself into a beautiful young woman. Her name is Toula Portoklas she is play by Nia Vardalos. She falls in love with Ian Miller play by John Corbett.Toula's father Gus Portoklas is play by Michael Constantine. The humor is both verbal and some phycisal. The humor pokes fun in a nice way at Greeks and Non-Greeks.The entire cast does a wonderful job.The director Joel Zwick does a wonderful job of paceing this comedy. The visuals are very good. The Greek music is very enjoyable.

Truely dissapointing - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I went into this movie with high hopes, I had heard much about it from the media and people I know who had seen it. When it started I automatically felt a sense of extreme boredome that stuck with me the whole time. Although the acting was good I was never able to connect with the characters. The story was slow to pick up or do anything and I found the jokes, although clever, were half-hearted and uninteresting. At one point halfway through the movie I was so discusted that I actually turned it off for a while before deciding to give it another chance. I turned back on thinking it would pick up and get better, oh how wrong I was. All in all, this movie was boring, uninspiring, and all out bad

Movie review - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I loved this movie I give it an A+ Because it has such a humorous plot to it. This is one of my favorites. It may of been pridictable but you have to admit it had lots of funny parts. I recommend this movie to everyone who would like a good laugh and a great storyline.

Hilarious - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

I went to movie with a group of friends and not a clue of what it was about. I was even reluctant to go to it. Boy, am I glad my friends talked me into it. It was so funny. I loved it. It had very few old recycled joked, like a lot of comedies that are made mow. I think it was really original but it had some truth to it. It was also very sweet.

Cheers! reviews: my big fat greek wedding - My Big Fat Greek Wedding Reviews

The surprise box office hit of 2002, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is an intoxicating and delightful romantic comedy that everybody should and will enjoy. Nia Vardalos is irresistable as Toula Portokalos, a 30-year-old, unmarried, unattractive woman that belongs to a Greek family that embraces its culture a bit too much. Her family is always trying to get her to marry a Greek man so she can make meat eating Greek babies. All of Toula's family is headed that way, Toula's sister has three children already! Toula doesn't want this. She doesn't want a Greek man, she wants a man that she loves. Toula eventually sees a guy she might actually love, Ian Miller (John Corbett). The problem is he's a W.A.S.P (a white Presbyterian American) and a vegetarian too. That just doesn't work with her family. So Toula and Ian carry on a secret love affair, but her family finds out. Ian and Toula must work out cultural clashes between both of their families, and plan their wedding at the same time. Folks, this certainly is a "Big Fat Greek Wedding." The Oscar-nominated screenplay was actually written by Nia Vardalos herself. The work is great, the movie is very funny, it's no wonder it was such a hit last year.
